ORRLCA State Scholarships

ORRLCA Memorial Scholarship

The Oregon Rural Letter Carriers Association has established a scholarship fund in the amount of a minimum of $1000 dollars and is to be awarded annually to a son, daughter or grandchild of an Oregon Rural Letter Carrier, who is a member of the ORRLCA.

This award can be used by a student desiring post high school education, including a 2 or 4 year college or university, with a minimum of 12 units per quarter or a vocational/technical career schooling at full-time status.

The Following Guidelines Have Been Established.

  1. Applicant will complete a brief application form, which includes the applicant’s full name, date of birth, and home address. The name of the ORRLCA sponsor and address. Sponsor’s name will be verified by the ORRLCA Secretary/Treasurer.
  2. The name and address of the college, university, vocational or technical school the applicant is attending or plans to attend must be listed on the application.
  3. The applicant must be unmarried and not yet reached the age of 23 by August 1st of the year the award is issued.
  4. All eligible applicant names will be placed in a container at the State Convention and two names will be drawn.
  5. The first named applicant will be notified of the award. If the first named applicant is unable to attend school or is disqualified that year for any reason, the second named applicant will be notified. If the applicant has already received a scholarship award from the State Auxiliary (for the same award year), then the second named applicant will receive the scholarship award.
  6. A check will be issued to the college, university, or technical/ vocational school, of the applicant’s choice once verification is received by the State Secretary/Treasurer.
  7. If the student leaves school, without cause, the money must be returned to the ORRLCA/ Scholarship Fund. Such cases will be reviewed by a Scholarship Committee appointed by the State President. The Committee’s decision will be final regarding the return of the money. In the case of sickness or death, the family will not be required to return the scholarship funds. Application will be due by June 1st, of each award year. Caretaker of the Scholarship is the State Auxiliary Secretary/Treasurer to be paid by the State Secretary/Treasurer of the ORRLCA.

ORRLCA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION2021

ORRLCA Auxiliary Scholarship

The Auxiliary of the Oregon Rural Letter Carriers has established a Scholarship to be awarded to a child or grandchild of an Oregon Rural Carrier member, who has not requested a refund of Auxiliary Dues, in the amount of $1500. Such scholarship shall be awarded annually to a high school graduate or a student already pursuing higher education at a College, University or Vocational / Technical School.

Guidelines

  1. The applicant must be a child or grandchild of an ORRLCA member in good standing, who has not requested a refund of the Auxiliary dues, as defined by ORRLCA BY-LAWS, Article 3 Section 3, is unmarried, and has not yet reached the age of 23 by August 1st of the award year.
  2. Applicant must fully complete a brief application, including full name of applicant, address, date of birth, the name of the Auxiliary Sponsor and sponsor’s address. *Verification of Sponsor will be noted by ORRLCA Auxiliary Secretary/ Treasurer
  3. Eligible names of applicants will be placed in a container at the State Convention and two names will be drawn. The first drawn applicant will be notified and awarded the scholarship. If the first drawn applicant is unable to attend school or disqualified for any reason, the second drawn applicant will be notified and awarded the scholarship.  The applicant can only be the recipient of one scholarship award offered by the ORRLCA and the ORRLCA Auxiliary for the given award year.
  4. A check will be issued upon verification by the ORRLCA  Auxiliary Secretary/Treasurer of the recipient’s enrollment to the college, university, or technical/ vocational school of the recipient’s choice.
  5. If the applicant should leave school without cause, the award is to be returned to the ORRLCA Auxiliary Secretary/Treasurer. Each case will be reviewed by a Scholarship Award Committee, appointed by the ORRLCA Auxiliary President. The decision of the committee will be final regarding the return of the award. In cases of sickness or death, the family will not be required to return the award.

ORRLCA Auxiliary LaVern Clithero Scholarship

The Auxiliary of Oregon Rural Letter Carriers has established a LaVern Clithero Scholarship to be awarded to an active Junior Auxiliary member who is a child or grandchild of an ORRLCA Auxiliary Member in the amount of $1500.00. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a high-school graduate or a student already pursuing a higher education at a College, University or Vocational/Technical School.

         Guidelines

  1. Applicant must be a child or grandchild of an ORRLCA Auxiliary Member and have been a Past or Present ORRLCA Junior Auxiliary Officer, or have been actively participating as a Junior Auxiliary member. The prior year’s State Convention attendance sheet will be checked to determine if the Junior was present and participating. The exception to this guideline is if on the dates of the State Convention the applicant’s place of education was in session. If so, submit the name of the school and phone number so it can be verified.
  2. The applicant each year, by June 1, must submit a letter to the Auxiliary President notifying them that their school will be in session during the dates of the State Convention and asking to be excused from those years’ activities.
  3. The applicant is unmarried and has not yet reached the age of 23 by August 1 of the award year.
  4. The applicant will complete a brief application, including name, address, phone number, date of birth, and the name of the Auxiliary Sponsor, address, phone number. Verification of Sponsor will be reviewed by State Auxiliary Secretary/Treasurer.
  5. Eligible names of applicants will be placed in a container at the State Convention and two names will be drawn. The first drawn applicant will be notified of the award. If that applicant is unable to attend school or disqualified for any reason, the second named applicant will be awarded the scholarship. The applicant can only be awarded one scholarship offered by the ORRLCA or the Auxiliary ORRLCA for that given year.
  6. Upon enrollment verification from the applicant’s named higher Educational Institute, the Scholarship Award will be issued. If the applicant should leave school without cause the award is to be returned to the ORRLCA Auxiliary Secretary/Treasurer. Each case will be reviewed by a Scholarship Award Committee, appointed by the State Auxiliary President. The decision of the committee will be final regarding the return of the award. In cases of sickness or death, the family will not be required to return the award.
